Madam Akua Afriyie, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kumawu, has been dismissed from her party for openly expressing support for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a Flagbearer hopeful of the opposing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Madam Afriyie, despite her affiliation with the NDC, publicly voiced her admiration for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen during the Kumawu by-election. She stated that if Alan were chosen as the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections, she would happily vote for him due to his vision and potential to provide hope for the youth.
Her declaration attracted attention and controversy within political circles, leading to her dismissal from the NDC. Following her removal, Madam Afriyie declared herself a floating voter.
She emphasized her unwavering support for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and cautioned that if the NPP does not nominate him as their flagbearer, she might abstain from the 2024 elections.
During the constituency delegates Durbar for the Kumawu, Afram Plains, and Effiduase Asokore constituencies, delegates expressed strong support for Alan Kyerematen’s presidential candidacy. They asserted that it is his time to lead the party and that they will make every effort to ensure his victory in the presidential primary.
