A surveyor, Maxwell Lukutor has emerged as the Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress in the South Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region after defeating the incumbent MP, Kobby Woyome.
This is the third time he has contested the primary against the incumbent MP, Wisdom Kobena Woyome, who has been the MP since 2008.
Mr Lukutor polled 597 votes as against Kobby Mensah’s 562 votes, whereas the third contender Vivain Abla Kpeglo had just 4 votes.
For the presidential, John Mahama polled 1,504 votes, Kojo Bonsu had 11 votes and 6 rejected ballot.
According to Maxwell Lukutor, the people of South Tongu deserve the best in terms of developmental projects which were lacking, hence his decision to put himself forward.
Mr Lukutor is believed to have carried out a very intensive campaign which focused on engagement with delegates and community members about their concerns and how intends to solve them.
He held town hall meetings, door-to-door campaigns, and even organized a series of community service projects which made his message resonate with the people of South Tongu although this was only an internal election.
