The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken decisive action against one of its prominent members, Edgar Asamoah Boateng, suspending him for his role in preventing the party from conducting primaries in the Abuakwa North Constituency.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
The party’s FEC gathered to review the challenges that led to the cancellation of parliamentary primaries in 17 constituencies across the country.
The committee focused on the case of Abuakwa North, where a court injunction was sought to halt both the Presidential and Parliamentary Primaries not only in the said constituency but also in all 275 constituencies in Ghana.
Edgar Asamoah Boateng’s actions were deemed in violation of Article 49 (1) (d) of the party’s constitution, which expressly prohibits party members from taking legal actions against the party without first exhausting the internal complaints procedure and available remedies. Such conduct, according to the party’s constitution, subjects the member to disciplinary actions under Article 48, Clause 8.
The suspension decision is geared towards sending a clear message that the party will not tolerate actions that undermine its internal processes and democratic practices.
