The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans for a nationwide demonstration to press the Electoral Commission (EC) to take necessary actions to ensure fairness in the upcoming elections.
This decision was made public by NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, after he filed the party’s nomination forms at the EC’s headquarters in Accra yesterday, September 9, 2024.
Asiedu Nketia expressed frustration over the EC’s refusal to address the party’s demands for a forensic audit and other measures to guarantee a credible electoral process. He argued that despite several appeals, the EC has ignored critical concerns raised by the NDC, sparking widespread dissatisfaction.
In response, the NDC will stage demonstrations across all 16 regional capitals on September 17, 2024, with the goal of signaling to the EC that Ghanaians are discontented with its handling of election-related issues.
“You the media people, were with some of the people who intercepted and retrieved one of the stolen BVDs. So far, we don’t have any feedback as to what progress is being made on the case involving those who have allegedly been arrested here at your commission and so on. This all generates some amount of suspicion.”
“Those of you who have been asking us what if they don’t comply, what will we do? On the 17th of this month, the NDC is embarking on a massive nationwide demonstration in all 16 regional capitals.”
He added, that on the 17th of September, the NDC will mobilize across the nation, gathering at EC offices in all regions to submit further petitions, urging the EC to conduct itself in a way that ensures peaceful and fair elections.
