In a swift rebuttal to recent claims made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye popularly known as Nana B, vehemently denounced what he described as “blatant falsehoods” propagated by the opposition party.
Nana B addressed the press following statements made by the NDC’s National Communication Officer, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, alleging judicial directives aimed at the Attorney General, Godfred Dame, during the ongoing ambulance trial.
Nana B, referring to the assertions made by the NDC, emphasized that the statements were a distortion of the facts presented in court. He clarified that the judge overseeing the trial had dismissed all four applications submitted by Dr. Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa, individuals implicated in the case, seeking to halt the proceedings and launch an inquiry into the conduct of the Attorney General.
“The court’s dismissal of the applications clearly demonstrates that there is no legal basis for the claims made by the accused parties,” Boakye asserted.
Furthermore, Nana B highlighted the judge’s guidance to the Attorney General, advising him not to personally lead the trial proceedings in light of recent developments.
However, he stressed that this advice did not entail an outright directive for the Attorney General to abstain from the case altogether, but rather to allow other attorneys from the Office of the Attorney-General to handle the matter.
Addressing the contentious issue of the admission of a secretly recorded telephone conversation as evidence, Nana B reiterated the judge’s ruling, which he claimed deemed the tape irrelevant to the case.
He clarified that despite its admission, the judge emphasized that the conversation did not implicate the Attorney General in any wrongdoing, as the alleged remarks did not originate from him but from Richard Jakpa, one of the accused individuals.
“In her careful consideration, the judge listened to the tape repeatedly and found no evidence to support the claims made against the Attorney General,” Boakye stated.
Nana B concluded by accusing the NDC of attempting to mislead the public with baseless allegations and urged the populace to remain vigilant against such misinformation campaigns.
