The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled 280 members in Agona West, including former Gender Minister Cynthia Mamle Morrison, for actions deemed to contravene the party’s constitution.
The decision, effective 16 December 2024, was reached unanimously during an Expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on Sunday, 15 December 2024.
In a statement signed by Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, Constituency Chairman for Agona West, the expelled individuals were indefinitely banned from representing or identifying themselves as members of the NPP.
The statement explained that the expulsion followed numerous complaints from other party members about the individuals’ alleged misconduct, which was said to undermine party unity and loyalty.
According to the statement, these actions are in accordance with Article 3(9)(1) of the NPP’s 2017 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the party to take disciplinary measures against members who fail to uphold its principles and loyalty.
The NPP emphasized that the move was necessary to safeguard the integrity of the party and its democratic processes, particularly during critical election periods. A detailed list of the expelled individuals has been circulated to the media for dissemination.
