A memorandum sighted by InsiderGH.com indicates that the leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have decided to organize fresh elections in the Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern Region to elect new executives to lead the party in that Constituency.
In May 2022, the Akwatia constituency executives, Alhaji Osman Yakubu — Chairman; Mr Kwadwo Mensah — First Vice Chairman; Mr Kwasi Boopim — Second Vice-Chairman; Mr Eugene Opoku Acheampong — Secretary; Mr Richmond Attakora Adams — Assistant Secretary; Mr Emmanuel Aduomi — Organiser; Mr Taminu Buhari — Youth Organiser; Madam Grace Boatemaa — Women’s Organiser and Mr Abdul Latif Mohammed — Nasara Coordinator, were all sworn into office because there was no election in the constituency.
However, the leadership of the party, in a memorandum from the General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, to the Eastern Regional Executive Committee of the party dated 28th December, 2022, holds that the National Executive Committee of the party have resolved that fresh internal elections should be conducted in the Akwatia Constituency.
The exercise is geared towards the election of polling station executives, Electoral Area Coordinators and Constituency Executives for the party in Akwatia.
The Eastern Regional Executive Committee has therefore been directed to propose a convenient timeline for the conduct of the elections.
