The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council (NC) are set to convene today for discussions on potential running mates for their flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The meeting will primarily center around identifying individuals deemed effective partners for Dr. Bawumia, contributing to the party’s success in the 2024 elections.
Sources from Citi News suggest that prominent figures such as Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Energy Minister), Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (Education Minister), and Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu (Majority Leader) are strongly under consideration.
The NEC will carefully deliberate on these candidates and formally present its recommendations to the National Council for approval.
This process aligns with the NPP’s constitution, requiring the selection of a running mate 12 months before a major election if the President is not the candidate.
Given President Akufo-Addo’s absence, currently abroad, Vice President Dr. Bawumia will preside over today’s crucial meetings.
