Pastor Kofi Amponsah, the founding President of the House of Ezra Prayer Center Worldwide Ministry, recently voiced his opposition to Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia’s presidential aspirations.
During a sermon to his congregants, Pastor Kofi Amponsah expressed his determination to prevent the Vice President from assuming the highest office in the country.
He asserted, “As long as I am alive, and my God is alive, he will never become president. Does the country belong solely to him? If he had any ideas, why didn’t he support Akufo-Addo with them? Are there no other qualified individuals in Ghana? If there are, they should step forward.”
The religious leader also accused the Vice President of accumulating wealth from the state since taking on the role of the second gentleman of the land. He criticized the prominence of Bawumia’s pictures at party offices and implied that hunger for power might be driving such displays. “Just because you have become vice president, doesn’t mean you’ve suddenly acquired wealth. When you were not in that position, you had nothing,” he added.
As the November presidential primary of the NPP approaches, ten candidates, including Vice President Bawumia and Alan Kyerematen, have been actively seeking the support of party delegates throughout the country.
The party will conduct a preliminary vote in August to narrow down the field of ten candidates to five, who will then proceed to the main contest in November 2023 to elect a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the leader of the party.
