The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an attack on the convoy of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate, which occurred on Friday, November 29, 2024.
According to a statement issued by the police on Saturday, November 30, the incident took place along the Akosombo-Accra Highway, specifically between Akuse and Kpong in the Eastern Region. Preliminary findings suggest that a dispatch rider traveling in the opposite direction allegedly hurled an object at one of the vehicles in the convoy, shattering its windscreen.
While no injuries were reported, the incident has raised concerns about the security of political figures as the 2024 General Elections approach.
The police assured the public of a comprehensive investigation, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining safety and order during the election period. “We would like to assure the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated as we are committed to ensuring the safety of all persons before, during, and after the 2024 General Elections,” the statement emphasized.
The public has been encouraged to remain calm as authorities work to uncover the motive behind the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.
