The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of several members of the Democracy Hub group for participating in unlawful activities during a protest in Accra.
The demonstrators reportedly blocked roads, dismantled police barriers, and disrupted traffic flow at the 37 Roundabout.
According to a police statement, a search is ongoing for one of the protest’s leaders, Oliver Vormawor, and others accused of engaging in acts of disorder during the demonstration.
Initially organized to address economic concerns, the protest took an unexpected turn and was rebranded as a rally against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
In a viral video, Oliver Vormawor is seen removing a key from a police vehicle and throwing it away before fleeing the scene. Another video shows him toppling police barricades without any apparent provocation.
