Members of two patrol teams at Donkorkrom and Maame Krobo all in the Eastern Region have indicted for taking bribes and freeing suspects who were carting over 109 slabs of compressed substance suspected to be Indian hemp otherwise known as Wee.
According to incontrovertible evidence available to MyNewsGh.com which has been confirmed in a police situational report sighted by the portal, police investigators had intelligence that a blue and orange colored Benz Bus with registration number GS 4979 – 12 from Volta Region heading towards Donkorkrom had narcotics concealed in it.
Surveillance was placed on the said vehicle and Intel later picked indicated that the Donkorkrom and Maame Krobo Police Patrol teams though knew the situation, allegedly took money from the driver and the conductor both in cash and mobile money and released the suspect.
The Maame Krobo Patrol team after allegedly taking the money, also decided to take the whole consignment of the 109 compressed parcels as their booty.
The surveillance team led by a senior police officer on Friday January 6, 2023 at 10:00am simultaneously carried out an operation, leading to the arrest of the released suspect driver identified as Dorne Akapaka age 48 years, the conductor Kojo Ashiabi aged 27 years after their release and the 109 compressed parcels retrieved from the Maame Krobo Police Station.
A look in their station Diary indicated that since the arrest of the said suspects on Thursday January 5, 2023 at about 1pm till their release, there was no single entry made in there.
The retrieved compressed parcels were taken to the Donkorkrom Police Division and the suspects detained at Mpraeso Central Police Station.
At the Donkorkrom Divisional Headquarters, an amount of GHc 4,950.00 bribe was retrieved from the Donkorkrom Patrol team leader one Corporal Evans Mensah.
The 109 PARCELS of substances suspected to be Narcotics retained and the said Vehicle impounded for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Police Commander ACP Isaac Asante has directed the Donkorkrom Divisional Commander ACP Christopher Klomega to summon the indicted patrol teams led by Corporal Evans MENSAH and Corporal Anthony Jonathan Gbeve before him.
