Richard Ackom Quayson, the Deputy Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, has sadly passed away.
As per a report from the state news agency, GNA, the announcement of his demise was made in a notice dated March 22, 2024, and endorsed by Mr. Henry Ashley, the Director of Human Resources and Administration, acting on behalf of the Commissioner.
In a somber excerpt from the statement, it reads, “It is with a heavy heart that we inform members of staff of the death of our Deputy Commissioner (APR), Richard Ackom Quayson, who passed away unexpectedly on the 21st of March 2024, after a short illness.”
Mr. Ackom Quayson commenced his journey with the Commission in 1993 as a senior legal officer, following his tenure as a legal officer at the precursor institution of CHRAJ, the Office of the Ombudsman, from 1987 to 1993.
Before assuming the role of Deputy Commissioner, he served as the regional director for the Western and Central Regions. His appointment as Deputy Commissioner in August 2005 bestowed upon him the vital responsibilities of overseeing the Commission’s anti-corruption mandate, as well as its public education and research endeavors.
