Bernice Adiku Heloo, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Hohoe Constituency, has passed away at the age of 68. She died in the early hours of Wednesday, December 25, following a brief illness, leaving her family, constituents, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in mourning.
Heloo served as the MP for Hohoe in Ghana’s 6th and 7th Parliaments during the 4th Republic, representing her constituents from January 7, 2013, to January 6, 2021. During her tenure, she was known for her commitment to social development, women’s rights, and community empowerment.
Beyond her parliamentary service, Heloo was a prominent advocate for women’s rights and health. She served as the former president of the Society for Women and AIDS in Africa, where she championed initiatives to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS and support affected individuals. She was also the founder of Prolink, a Ghanaian NGO that has made significant contributions to improving the lives of vulnerable populations across the country.
The NDC in the Volta Region, where she was a key figure, has expressed deep sorrow over her passing. While regional executives have confirmed the news, an official statement is yet to be released.
Heloo’s death marks the loss of a dedicated public servant and a staunch advocate for social justice. Tributes have begun pouring in from party members, former colleagues, and citizens who remember her as a compassionate leader and tireless advocate for her people.
