Charlotte Osei, former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), has sharply criticized Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for involving her in a dispute with Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa regarding a property that houses Asaase Broadcasting Company Limited.
Gabby Otchere-Darko, who is also a cousin of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, reacted to a statement from the Lands Commission clarifying that the Asaase property is not part of the lawsuit filed by the Judicial Service of Ghana against the government, as Ablakwa had suggested. In his response, Otchere-Darko accused Ablakwa of ignoring other properties sold by his party’s administration, including one opposite Asaase Radio, which he alleged had been sold and is now occupied by Osei.
Gabby Otchere-Darko further claimed that a public servant had been displaced from this property.
In response, Charlotte Osei took to X (formerly Twitter) on September 11, 2024, to refute Otchere-Darko’s allegations. She emphasized that she had never benefited from state lands, clarifying that she purchased the property in question through a legitimate commercial transaction in 2007, prior to her appointment as EC Chair in 2015.
“It’s ironic for someone to accuse others of lying while spreading falsehoods themselves. I urge you to take legal action against @S_OkudzetoAblak if you believe there has been misinformation. I would gladly do the same,” Osei stated.
She continued, “I have NEVER benefited from public lands. My property was acquired in a commercial transaction in 2007. Stop the lies, @GabbyDarko. It’s unfair and you know it. Please cease dragging me into this baseless controversy.”
