Police in Ejura, Ashanti Region, have apprehended two individuals suspected of planning a robbery and opening fire on police officers during an operation to thwart an imminent robbery attack on a mobile money vendor.
The two suspects, identified as Alhaji Wahab Suleiman and Ibrahim Abubakari, engaged in a shootout with the officers, resulting in two officers sustaining gunshot wounds. The wounded officers were promptly transported to the hospital, but tragically, General Sergeant Ahmed Kamal, Badge Number 42250, succumbed to his injuries.
While the two robbery suspects also sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of gunfire, they are currently receiving medical care under police custody. Authorities are actively pursuing their accomplice, with the aim of bringing all responsible parties to justice.
During the investigation, various exhibits were recovered from the crime scene. These included two SB shotguns, one pump-action gun, six live BB cartridges, and one used BB cartridge, all serving as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The incident has deeply affected the community, and the Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased officer, Sergeant Ahmed Kamal. In a statement, Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Director of Public Affairs, expressed profound sadness and paid tribute to Sergeant Kamal for his unwavering dedication and sacrifice in the line of duty.
“We extend our thoughts and prayers to the family of the fallen officer,” Assistant Commissioner Ansah-Akrofi stated. “He paid the ultimate price in the service of his nation. May he rest in peace. May Allah grant him Jannah.”
The Police Department remains committed to upholding the safety and security of the community, and it is making every effort to locate the remaining suspect and ensure that justice is served in memory of Sergeant Ahmed Kamal.
