Drama unfolded within the special parliamentary committee tasked with investigating the leaked tape concerning a purported plot to oust the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
On Monday, the Vice Chairman of the committee, Hon. James Agalga, expressed his frustration at the committee’s Chairman, Samuel Atta Akyea, for his conduct during the proceedings.
Insider accounts from the committee revealed that Mr. Agalga, in a moment of exasperation, stormed out of the session after his suggestion to Chairman Atta Akyea, requesting adherence to the committee’s terms of reference, was seemingly disregarded.
Mr. Agalga was reported to have told the chairman, “Mr. Chairman, you can’t treat me like that. If you don’t want me on the committee, I will leave it for you.”
It was only after the intervention of another committee member, Mr. Eric Opoku, that Mr. Agalga was persuaded to return to his seat.
Furthermore, during the hearing, Chairman Atta Akyea prevented members of the Police Management Board from attending the proceedings to show support for the IGP.
The committee’s primary objective is to investigate a leaked tape in which three senior police officers and a politician were allegedly heard discussing plans to remove the IGP due to his alleged refusal to condone election rigging in the 2024 polls.
