A live broadcast of Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana turned into an emotional moment when North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Deputy Chairman of NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Nana Akomea, reacted to a court document that revealed the Judicial Service of Ghana had sued the government over the illegal sale of its bungalows.
The unexpected turn of events occurred during a panel discussion on Friday, September 6, 2024, when Ablakwa, while reading the court document, unveiled the plaintiff: “The plaintiff is the Judicial Service of Ghana, and the defendants are the Land Commission, Frims Oil Company Limited, and the Attorney General.” His revelation caught the host, Annie Afua Ampofo, off guard, prompting her to exclaim, “The plaintiff is the Judicial Service of Ghana!”
Ablakwa, with a smile, responded, “Judicial Service of Ghana, they have gone to court. That is the republic that we are in now.” This sparked uncontrollable laughter from the panellists and the host. Annie Afua Ampofo laughed so hard that tears began rolling down her cheeks, unable to contain her amusement.
“Annie, I’m trying to control myself. I don’t want to laugh, but you are making me laugh,” Ablakwa said as he joined in the contagious laughter.
Nana Akomea, slightly confused by the situation, added, “Annie, I don’t know why, but it has occurred to me that this is the Judicial Service, which is the court,” before he too succumbed to laughter.
Ablakwa added a humorous twist, saying, “The court has gone to court,” which Akomea affirmed with a chuckle, “Yes, yes,” causing more laughter among the group.
Reflecting on the irony, Ablakwa recalled a past experience, mentioning, “Somebody reminded me recently that when I took Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey to court, the Judicial Service was hard on me. At the time, they didn’t know that when they were done with Jake’s bungalow, they would be coming for their bungalow.”
The laughter continued as they discussed the contents of the court document, which revealed the Judicial Service’s legal challenge over the unconstitutional sale of several of its properties. These properties include notable addresses in prime areas like Cantonments, Roman Ridge, Labone, and Ridge, all of which were previously occupied by high-ranking judges and officials.
The Judicial Service in the said document, seeks the following reliefs fro the cpourt;
“Declaration that any purported sale, lease, grant, or disposal of the land and bungalows listed in paragraph 13 of the Statement of Claim being specifically described as:
