Prominent leaders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have rallied around the party’s presidential candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, following the NPP’s historic defeat in the 2024 elections.
A video of the meeting, which has gained traction online, captured the emotional reactions of key figures, including Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), Bawumia’s running mate.
Chairman Wontumi, in a heartfelt address, urged Dr. Bawumia and party members to draw strength from their faith, emphasizing the importance of accepting both triumphs and setbacks as part of God’s plan. “This is the will of God, he knows why this happened. We can’t fight him, we can’t do anything. We know that at the right time he would make us happy for the sake of you and your running mate,” Chairman Wontumi said.
He further praised Dr. Bawumia’s groundbreaking decision to select Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate, a move he described as a significant honor to the Ashanti Region.
Wontumi highlighted the historic nature of the decision, noting that it marked the first time such recognition was given to the region and underscored its importance to the party.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, also spoke during the meeting, acknowledging the deep pain and disappointment felt by the party following the electoral loss. Despite the shared sorrow, he expressed gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for taking the time to meet with party executives and leaders in the Ashanti Region to offer words of encouragement and solidarity.
