President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that he will not relent on his decision to build the National Cathedral to honour his personal promise to God.
According to him, those who do not share in his views on the construction of the National Cathedral are like Biblical Sanballat and Tobias in the days of Nehemiah.
Speaking on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the centenary celebration of the Ga Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, held at the Black Star Square, Accra, President Akufo-Addo stated that the National Cathedral will signify an appreciation to God who he believes has spared the country from conflicts and plagues over the years.
“Just like Sanballat and Tobias, in the days of Nehemiah, there are some who do not share my views on the building of the National Cathedral.”
“I respect their right to differ but I am confident (of) my decision, by the vast numbers of enthusiastic supporters of this project whose spiritual dimension is limitless”.
According to him, the project “will serve not only as the country’s collective thanksgiving to the Almighty for the blessings He has bestowed on our nation, sparing us the ravages of civil war that have bedeviled the histories of virtually all our neighbours and the outbreak of deadly mass epidemics.”
“I need the support of every Ghanaian, together with the prayers of the church, to help me and my government carry out our mandate successfully,” he stated.
In Nehemiah Chapter 4, Sanballat and Tobias are mentioned as having fought the Jews’ efforts to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and doing all in their power to divert them.
