In Dodowa, the district capital of Shai Osudoku, Courage Tetteh, the Constituency Youth Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been arrested for allegedly facilitating the registration of minors to obtain voter’s ID cards during the ongoing registration exercise.
The arrest came about due to the vigilance of New Patriotic Party (NPP) agents who, suspecting foul play, promptly notified the police and provided evidence that two individuals were indeed below the required age for registration.
Courage Tetteh, along with the two minors, has been taken into custody for further investigation.
Responding to the incident, Alexander Lukes Odoi, the NPP Deputy Secretary for the Shai Osudoku constituency, attributed the NDC’s behavior to their intense desire for power. Odoi alleged that the NDC was registering foreigners and had sought the intervention of the Zamnama Chief at Dodowa Zongo to address the issue.
Furthermore, Odoi disclosed that Courage Tetteh, in addition to his role as the NDC’s youth organizer, is a candidate in the upcoming assembly election, which could have influenced his actions.
George Mensah, the NPP’s Communications Officer for the constituency, expressed concern over the NDC officer’s conduct. He questioned the NDC’s desperation in what is considered their stronghold and assured that the NPP would remain vigilant.
As of now, officials from the NDC have not issued any statements regarding the incident. The vigilance demonstrated by NPP Party agents has played a pivotal role in upholding the integrity of the registration process in the Shai Osudoku District. It is hoped that other political parties will follow suit to ensure a fair and peaceful election in December.
