South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, has strongly criticized Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin following the Electoral Commission’s (EC) declaration of seven out of nine contested parliamentary seats in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking to TV3 on Saturday, December 21, at the EC’s Greater Accra regional office during the results recollation process, Mr. Dafeamekpor accused the NPP of engaging in political manipulation to secure a parliamentary majority.
“When a matter is in court, don’t you respect the court process? Today, Afenyo is granting a press conference, giving praises to an outcome of exercises that are still before the Supreme Court. And he is telling me to take it in good faith and that we are brothers. We are not brothers, Afenyo, we are not!” he exclaimed passionately.
The MP also accused the NPP of hypocrisy and underhanded tactics in pursuit of electoral victories. “Some of these lies, Afenyo should stop this conduct. He should stop fabricating stories to spice up his press conferences,” he added.
Vowing political consequences, Mr. Dafeamekpor warned of a reckoning should the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regain power. “They may be in government, but they are no longer in power. The power has left them and is now transitioning to us. When we get the power, we will show them where power lies!” he stated.
The Electoral Commission recently declared the NPP winners in seven constituencies—Nsawam Adoagyiri, Obuasi East, Tema Central, Ahafo Ano North, Okaikwei Central, Ahafo Ano South West, and Techiman South—following a court-mandated recollation of results.
Mr. Dafeamekpor’s comments came in response to a press conference held by Afenyo-Markin, who hailed the NPP’s victories and urged the NDC to accept the outcomes in good faith.
